Scada in the water industry
SCADA, acronym for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition have been
proved as one of revolutionary technology which has all together
changed face of automated tasks.
Due to integration of SCADA systems with automated tasks, these have
become more reliable. Though being a supervisory system, SCADA systems
are powerful systems which control the flow of automated tasks on its
own and without any need for human to intervene. Due to these reasons,
SCADA is becoming more and more popular.
As the need for human intervention is almost zero and SCADA system
incites predefined actions when the state of system changes or when
value of any parameter changes beyond permissible levels, these have
found wide applications now.

Security enhancement for scada communication protocols
SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) has found its
applications into many realms of industry as well as real life.
Now its scope it is not limited to traditional industries but it has
made inroads into many other fields especially the control systems like
water control system, electricity control systems, sewerage control
system etc.
Though SCADA systems are important for safe and secure working
environment but there are many security lapses in them which can be
traversed easily and it can lead to leak of crucial data to outside
people.
Mostly the lapses are present in the way how the information/ data
collected get transmitted. The remote terminals are generally connected
via LAN supporting TCP/IP protocol thus rendering it to security
lapses. Such lapses can be fatal thus there is need for security
enhancement for SCADA communication protocols. |

and on its basis the system reacts to a particular state. PLCs can be
easily programmed. The SCADA system like in all systems also keeps a
record of data collected in database in a systematic way and can be
easily accessed and manipulated.
Thus, when one needs to locate the fault he can easily locate by
checking the parameters which are stored in database. As the faults
gets detected in a timely and efficient manner, SCADA in the water
industry also saves troubleshooting costs which can be huge if there is
no idea of the location f the fault.
Data transmitted from remote sensors to central unit can be done in
many ways (Ethernet, serial ports, wireless) but wireless mode of
transmission is always cost effective and efficient. Thus, it
can be concluded that SCADA in the water industry has proved to be a
boon paying for the efficient and reliable working of water control
systems.
