All SCADA systems work on
one principle. Remote sensors collect data and central system processes
them. The central system stores data which can be analysed at a later
stage and is known as SCADA Historian data analysis.
The analysed data is presented in human readable format at Man Machine
Interface, often abbreviated as MMI. These tasks are performed with
special software. The record which gets collected on hourly basis (or
any predefined period) is scrutinized as well as SCADA Historian data
analysis is undertaken with the purpose of process optimization. For
SCADA Historian data analysis to be carried out the main requisite is
existence of database as it is acts as repository for processing of
data.
The applications for SCADA Historian data analysis are generally
written in either VB or Microsoft C and the data is entered into
database either manually or through the remote sensors. Generally, the
software creates time sampled records which can be easily scrutinized
with the purpose of process optimization. The reports generated are
either event based (report is generated on occurrences of particular
event) or time based (report is generated every hour).

SCADA VHF Industrial products
generally work as remote sensors or repeaters. As the name
suggests, these products operate at VHF (Very High Frequency) which are
of tuning of Mhz.
Thus, the frequency band allocated to SCADA VHF industrial products
doesn't cause interference with other equipments operating in this
range. SCADA VHF industrial equipments too work on the same principle
of remote units and central system. Remote units collects the data and
send the collected data to a central system where its gets processed
and is displayed at Human Machine Interface (HMI) in human readable
format as series of graphs and textual representation.
If these radio transmitters act as remote units, then they collect the
data and send it to a central system via a wireless system operating in
frequency band of 175- 900 MHz, as the maximum capability of these
units is transmission in line of sight (maximum distance at which
central system is visible), it comes to be a major limitation of this
excellent automated system. |

SCADA
systems, acronym for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems
are supervisory systems that have made automated tasks more reliable
and efficient without having need of human to intervene or handle any
stage of process.
Thus, SCADA systems are also known as closed loop systems as they
operate of their own and response to change in parameter value/ state
beyond permissible values. Also, there is always a possibility of human
intervention as per the need that provides flexibility to SCADA
systems. Due to high range of flexibility, reliability and efficiency
SCADA systems have found their applications in control systems
(electricity control systems, water sewerage systems), radio
transmissions (long distance Scada GSM).
Even daily routine equipments have not left untouched by this
tremendous technology and many SCADA compatible equipments like water
metering pumps have flooded markets.
