If
the project encompasses large area to be surveyed and human
surveillance in not possible in such case, then one needs long distance
SACDA radio networks to be employed for sending the data collected from
remote sensors to central unit.
When area under surveillance is hundreds of kilometres such as in case
of petroleum pipeline, the only feasible solution is long distance
Scada GSM. Most important requisite for long range Scada GSMs
is ability to transmit the data to long distance.
For such purposes, repeaters are used as line of sight is limited to 5
miles. Repeaters are radio transmitters which act as boosters for
signals as signals tend to get weak after travelling certain amount of
distance. Thus repeaters boost the attenuated signals and again
transmit them to next repeater/ central system.

The brain of SCADA
system lies in Remote Terminal Units (also termed as RTU). Remote
terminal units are composed of logic converters which can be programmed
easily. Remote terminal unit is generally set as per the requirements,
but mostly RTU requires human intervention in case of emergency or any
extreme conditions. But in general, most of SCADA system behaves as
closed loop systems thus require minimal human intervention.
One of key features about SCADA systems is their ability of real time
monitoring of entire system. This is accomplished by data acquisitions
from sensors viz meter reading, status of sensor etc that are sent to
central system at regular time period depending upon the system. Along
with data acquisition another function performed by SCADA system is to
display the data collected from various sensors in human readable
format so that any time human can intervene as the need
arises. |

SCADA, acronym for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition have been
proved as one of revolutionary technology which has all together
changed face of automated tasks.
Due to integration of SCADA systems with automated tasks, these have
become more reliable. Though being a supervisory system, SCADA systems
are powerful systems which control the flow of automated tasks on its
own and without any need for human to intervene. Due to these reasons,
SCADA is becoming more and more popular.
As the need for human intervention is almost zero and SCADA system
incites predefined actions when the state of system changes or when
value of any parameter changes beyond permissible levels, these have
found wide applications now.
